Belgravia - Year 2 2023 - 2024

Mrs Lorna Cunningham

Miss Sara Phillips

Welcome to Belgravia Class; the home of Year 2!

Our topic this term will be Dungeons and Dragons. We are excited to be exploring the wonderful world of fairytales, castles and royalty.  Our learning will even include a visit to Chirk Castle.

As writers we will be exploring fairytales old and new, and learning more about narrative, characters and settings.

As mathematicians we will continue to learn about multiplication and division, as well as applying our number knowledge to solve mathematical problems. We will also learn about money, fractions, time and volume!

As historians we will be learning about the lives and impact of our three great queens; Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

As geographers we will discover more about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom; their locations, capital cities and famous landmarks.

As scientists we will be thinking about animal and their offspring. We will be answering the question "do offspring always look like their parents?".

As theologians we will explore other world faiths and compare the different ways in which we welcome babies into the world, as well as enjoying and comparing our different creation stories.

As designers and builders we will design, build, test and evaluate bridges to help us reach the castle, as well as using a range of materials to create castles of our own.

As artists we will explore modelling and sculpture, and use clay to create models of famous royal figures.

It's going to be an exciting term of learning!

Mrs Cunningham will be teaching Year 2 Monday - Wednesday and Miss Phillips will be teaching Year 2 on Thursdays and Fridays.

Belgravia Reading

Children's books will be changed on a Monday when they have finished reading their current books. Each child can choose up to 4 books to take home at one time and they will be given a phonietically decodable book (if required) by their teacher.  The decodeable book should be read multiple times to help develop fluency and expression. If, over the course of the week, your child reads all 5 books, their reading should be supplemented with books from home. For some children reading longer books, the expectation isn't to read all 5 books and should change just those which have been completed.

Reading Records will be monitored regularly and they remain a very good way to communicate messages from home.

Belgravia PE Sessions

This term PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

Outdoor learning

This term our outdoor learning session will be on a Wednesday afternoon.

Please ensure children are bringing appropriate clothing and footwear every Wednesday.

Home Learning

Each Friday, the children will complete a spelling test and a '10 in 10' maths challenge in school.
