Art and Design
The Arts curriculum is taught within the creative curriculum in order to teach the skills of creating art within a meaningful context for the children. In this way, throughout their time at Saighton School, the children will have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in progression, in line with their age/current ability.
Our arts curriculum has been enriched by the inclusion of a variety of mediums such as limo, mod roc, clay, stop motion animation, videos/recordings of drama related to literacy and topic. This year, Powertex will be introduced.
We often have an ‘Artist in Residence’ who will enrich the children’s experiences with their own particular expertise. In the past, we have had Willow Weavers, Story tellers and drama groups. We endeavour to offer the children a variety of experiences so that they can develop not only their skills but also a love of art in whatever mediums excite them personally.
We continue to offer a variety of arts for our extra-curricular clubs. The first one this year is the ever popular ‘Reindeer Droppings’ club and there will be more arts clubs to come!
Examples of artistic activities will be shared on this page as the children engage in them throughout the year.
