Multiplication tables underpin all aspects of mathematics. Speed and accuracy in tables up to 12 is vital by the end of Key Stage 2. Year 4 will be required to complete the new national tables assessment in the summer, being tested on all tables to 12x. Speed is essential as well as accuracy for this.
Children will be asked to learn the table that they are currently working on. They will be given weekly timed tables tests and will move on to a new table after 3 successful tests have been completed. Progressive table sheets can be used to support learning.
