Meet The Teaching Team

Mrs Lesley Ward (Teacher)

Departing from her career as a registered nurse (RNMH) and later, a pre-school deputy, Mrs Ward joined Saighton in 2008 as teacher for EYFS and Year 1.

Mrs Ward now oversees the school's Early Years pupils, encompassing The Seedlings which looks after children from 2.5 years of age and Eaton, our Reception Class. She is passionate about giving these young children the best start possible on which to build their subsequent learning.

She is also responsible for the Creative Curriculum and Art across the the school.

At home, Mrs Ward enjoys seeing family and friends, going to hear live music, reading and, when she can, her hobby of chainsaw carving. However, nothing is more important to Mrs Ward than her highly popular annual Reindeer Droppings Club!

Miss Alice Pickering (Teaching Assistant)

Miss Pickering joined the Saighton team in January 2019 as a teaaching assistant, after having graduated from Edge Hill University with a BA (Honours) in Primary English Education with QTS in July 2018. Throughout her course of study, she specialised in English whilst minoring in Geography.

During both her degree and working as a supply teacher, Miss Pickering has gained a wealth of teaching experience in both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Here, she served as a positive role model setting high expectations to motivate, challenge and inspire. Valuing practical, active learning and and imaginative work, Miss Pickering aims to implement hands-on, outdoor learning wherever possible whilst promoting a positive learning environment for her pupils.

Outside of work, Miss Pickering enjoys visiting National Trust buildings, cross-stitching and socialising with friends.
