Music

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

At Saighton we endeavour to develop the children's love of music through various mediums. The children learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence. Children also perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.

The School uses the 'Charanga' music scheme that enables all children, whatever their ability, to find their voice and perform, compose and understand the dynamics of music. This is done through the use of well known pop songs to traditional music styles.

During years 3 and 4 through the wider opportunities for music, all children have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. Through a partnership with Music For Life, the children learn to play the Guitar, the various instruments in a Samba group and Brass. This is very popular with the children and concludes with an opportunity to play in a concert with many other schools.Following this many of the children have opted to further their musical ability by taking up instrumental lessons.
