Belgravia - Year 2 2026 - 2027
Miss Katie Jones
Welcome to Belgravia Class; the home of Year 2!
Our topic this term is London's Burning! In the first half term we will be using our English text, 'Troll Swap' to explore individual differences and celebrate uniqueness. We will then immerse ourselves in the past to learn about The Great Fire of London. We will become historians to discover why the fire started, how it spread, how firefigthers extinguished the blaze and how London changed following the significant event. Inspired by Samuel Pepys, we will also write our own diary.
In science, we will be learning all about Everyday Materials and their suitability for a range of purposes. We will also begin to observe seasonal change within our forest area.
In Religious Education this term we will be exploring the questions; “Why is the Bible such a special book?" and "Why do people in the nativity story travel to Bethlehem?"
Belgravia PE Sessions
This term PE will be on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon.
Belgravia Outdoor Learning Session
This year Belgravia's outdoor learning will be on a Thursday. Please remember to bring your base layers to school and ensure you have wellies and waterproofs (labelled) in a separate bag.
Belgravia Home Learning
Each week there will be spellings to learn and daily reading. Spellings will be available each week on your child’s EdShed account.
Children's books will be changed on a Wednesday. Each child can choose up to 4 books to take home, this may include a phonetically decodable text and colour banded books. The decodable book should be read multiple times to help develop fluency and expression. If, over the course of the week, your child reads all 4 books, their reading should be supplemented with books from home. As your child progresses through the book bands, they may bring a longer chapter book home. In this case, it may be that they only bring one or two books home a week due to the length of the text.
Reading Records will be monitored regularly and they remain a very good way to communicate messages from home.
Each child has access to EdShed, Bug Club and Times Tables Rockstars. Your child's log in details for each account are stuck in the back of their Reading Records. Children should access one of these digital resources throughout the week in addition to daily reading.
